Roofing in Eunice, LA
Roof repair, replacement and storm work for Eunice homes on both sides of the St. Landry and Acadia parish line.
A roofer who knows Eunice.
Eunice sits about 20 miles west of Opelousas on US 190, a straight drive down the highway for our crew. We work across the city, from the streets around the Liberty Theatre and the Prairie Acadian Cultural Center to the neighborhoods along LA 13 toward LSU Eunice, and out into the farm country around town.
C.C. Duson laid out Eunice in the 1890s, named it for his wife, and talked the Southern Pacific into building a branch line from Crowley. The town was chartered in 1894. More than a century of building since then means a wide mix of roofs. Every project begins with a thorough inspection and a detailed written estimate, with photos of what we find.
What wears out roofs in Eunice.
Prairie squall lines
On the morning of March 24, 2025, a line of storms pushed 70 to 100 mph gusts across rural Acadia Parish. The National Weather Service traced the damage from just east of the Mermentau River to neighborhoods south of Eunice: 13 large transmission lines, outbuildings and several homes. Some of the worst damage was large trees falling on homes.
Hurricanes reach this far inland
Eunice is a long way from the Gulf, but the 2020 season still reached it. The National Weather Service listed Acadia and St. Landry among the parishes where Hurricane Laura's winds and fallen trees damaged homes. Hurricane Delta followed six weeks later with a 75 mph gust at the Opelousas airport, 20 miles east.
Open prairie, full sun
Eunice has hot, humid summers, a record high of 109 degrees and close to 58 inches of rain in an average year. On open prairie lots, many roofs take sun from morning to evening, which bakes shingles and attics. Good attic ventilation is part of every replacement estimate we write here, because a cooler attic helps shingles last longer.
Permits in Eunice
Eunice lies mostly in St. Landry and Acadia parishes, so the right office depends on your address. Inside city limits, start with the City of Eunice at City Hall, 300 South Second Street. Outside the city on the St. Landry side, the St. Landry Parish Permits Office in Opelousas covers unincorporated areas. On the Acadia side, the Acadia Parish Police Jury issues permits outside town limits. Under Louisiana's Act 239, reroofing projects that began on or after August 1, 2025 need a permit and inspection. Requirements vary, so confirm what your address needs.

A prairie railroad town on a parish line
Duson bought 160 acres, laid out a town site and brought the railroad in, and Eunice was incorporated as a town in 1895. When Evangeline Parish was created in 1908, Eunice competed with Ville Platte for the parish seat. After Ville Platte won in 1909, Eunice stayed in St. Landry. The result is a city of about 9,400 people, at the 2020 census, that straddles a parish line.
Homes in a town this age often carry several layers of repairs: a newer roof over original decking, flashing patched more than once, a chimney sealed and resealed. We look at what is underneath, photograph it, and price the work with transparent pricing and no hidden fees before anything starts.
What the March 2025 storm means for your roof
The weather service classed the March 2025 event as a thunderstorm wind event, not a tornado. Its survey points to a descending rear inflow jet inside a larger squall line, and the damage swath was about 3 miles wide. Wind like that can hit a whole neighborhood at once, and it often leaves damage you cannot see from the yard.
After a storm like that, look for lifted or missing shingles, bent flashing and limbs resting on the roof. Stay off the ladder and call us. We can tarp and seal openings, then plan the repair. We document the damage with photos and a written assessment you can give your insurer.
