Lasting value

New siding adds lasting value to your property alongside a new roof.

Siding and roofing meet at every wall line. Doing both with one crew means one set of flashing details and one person responsible for them.

How we do it

We start with a walk around the house. We look for loose, cracked or warped panels, soft spots in the wall behind them, gaps around windows and doors, and how water is handled where a roof meets a wall. Where it helps, we check from the attic and from inside for stains. We take photos of what we find.

You get a detailed written estimate with transparent pricing and no hidden fees. It covers the siding you choose, the trim, and any repairs to the wall underneath that we found during the inspection.

On the job, old siding comes off where needed, damaged sheathing is repaired, and a weather barrier goes on before the new siding. Windows, doors and roof lines are flashed so water drains out and away. When the last trim piece is on, we clean up thoroughly before we leave.

  • Walk-around inspection, with photos
  • A written estimate for siding, trim and any wall repairs
  • Removal of old siding where needed
  • Weather barrier and flashing at windows, doors and roof lines
  • New siding and trim installed
  • Clean-up of the yard and work area

Signs you need new siding

Siding wears slowly, so the signs are easy to get used to. Walk around the house and look for these:

It also helps to look at the trim around windows and doors and at the bottom course of siding near the ground. Those are the spots where water collects first, so they usually show damage before the rest of the wall does.

A few damaged panels can sometimes be replaced. When the problems are spread across several walls, or water is getting behind the siding, new siding is usually the better value.

  • Warped, cracked or loose panels
  • Soft or rotten boards, especially near the ground and under windows
  • Paint that peels again soon after it is redone
  • Mold or mildew that keeps coming back
  • Faded color that no longer matches replacement pieces
  • Holes from woodpeckers, insects or other pests
  • Drafts, rising cooling bills or stains on interior walls

Materials

We install materials from GAF, CertainTeed and Owens Corning. The right siding depends on how you want the house to look, how much upkeep you want, and your budget.

Vinyl siding is the most common choice on homes because it is affordable and needs little more than washing. Insulated vinyl adds a foam backing that helps with comfort. Fiber cement is heavier and more rigid, with a look closer to painted wood. Engineered wood offers a natural look with better resistance to moisture than plain wood. We go over the options with you at the estimate.

Behind any siding, the weather barrier and flashing do much of the real work. They catch the water that gets past the siding and send it back outside.

Built for Acadiana weather

South Louisiana humidity keeps walls damp, and shaded walls under live oaks and pines may never dry out fully. That is where mildew grows and wood siding rots first, so material choice and a good weather barrier matter.

Summer heat makes vinyl expand. Vinyl has to be hung loose enough to move with the temperature, or it buckles and ripples. Afternoon thunderstorms push rain sideways into every joint, and during hurricane season, June 1 to November 30, strong wind can catch loose panels and peel them off the wall.

The weak spot on many homes is where a lower roof meets a wall. A small piece of kickout flashing at the bottom of that roof line sends water into the gutter instead of behind the siding. Because we work on both the roof and the siding, those details get handled together.

Siding questions

Do you do siding on its own?
Yes, siding can be its own project or part of a full exterior job.
Can new siding improve insulation?
It can. Insulated vinyl siding adds a foam layer, and a new weather barrier cuts drafts. Wall insulation still does most of the work, so we explain how much difference to expect.
What is kickout flashing?
It is a small angled piece of flashing at the bottom edge of a roof that meets a wall. It turns water away from the wall and into the gutter. Missing kickout flashing is a common cause of rot behind siding.
Should I do siding and roofing at the same time?
It is not required, but doing both together lets the flashing where the roof meets the walls be done once, by the same crew, with no gaps between the two jobs.
How do I keep new siding looking good?
Wash it once or twice a year with a garden hose and a soft brush to clear mildew and pollen, keep sprinklers from hitting the walls, and trim back shrubs so air can move along the house.
