Youngsville roofing

A roofer who knows Youngsville.

Youngsville began as Royville, laid out before 1839 by George Roy and his son Desire. By 1859 it had St. Anne Church, one of the oldest Catholic churches in Lafayette Parish. In 1908 the Postal Service asked for a new name because of confusion with Rayville in north Louisiana, and the village was incorporated as Youngsville that year.

The old sugarcane town has grown fast since. The census counted 3,992 residents in 2000, 8,105 in 2010 and 15,929 in 2020, in 5,871 housing units. With growth like that, a large share of Youngsville roofs went on in the last 25 years, and the earliest of them are reaching the age where a replacement comes up.

What wears out roofs in Youngsville.

Hurricane wind from the Gulf

Youngsville sits about 10 miles south of Lafayette. When Hurricane Lili came ashore near Intracoastal City in October 2002, the National Weather Service survey estimated wind gusts of 70 to 80 mph in Youngsville. Gusts in that range can lift shingle edges and ridge caps on a roof that looked fine the day before.

Long, heavy rains

In August 2016, a stalled storm flooded 660 homes in Youngsville, and the city has since built detention ponds along Bayou Parc Perdu and Coulee LaSalle. Rain that heavy also finds every weak spot overhead: pipe collars, valleys and the flashing where a roof meets a wall. A small leak during a long rain is worth a look before it stains a ceiling.

HOA neighborhoods

Planned neighborhoods like Sugar Mill Pond have a homeowners association, and an HOA can have its own rules on roofing color or material. Before you choose a shingle, check your covenants and any approval step they require. Tell us about any HOA color or material requirements and we will build the estimate around them.

Permits in Youngsville

Inside Youngsville city limits, building permits are issued by the City of Youngsville, and you can apply in person at City Hall, 201 Iberia Street, or online. Homes outside the city in unincorporated Lafayette Parish go through the Lafayette Consolidated Government Permitting Division, which serves the City of Lafayette and the unincorporated parish. Louisiana's Act 239 has required roofing and reroofing work to be permitted and inspected since August 1, 2025. Requirements vary, so confirm what your address needs with the right office.

From Royville to a city of nearly 16,000

Youngsville grew faster than any other Louisiana town from 1990 to 2005, and the numbers kept climbing after that. It became a town in 1983 and a city in 2006. Chemin Metairie Parkway, whose first segment opened in early 2009, now ties the city to U.S. 90 near Broussard, and the Sports Complex, Sugar Beach and the amphitheater draw more than a million visitors a year.

Downtown is older. The Advocate has described its pre-World War II buildings, and architect Lynn Guidry said newer developments such as Sugar Mill Pond, River Ranch and Couret Farms were built on the model of an old town. Traditional-style homes often have more porches, dormers and valleys than a simple ranch roof, and every one of those joints is a place where water can get in.

Storms, rain and what they mean for a Youngsville roof

Two events show what weather here can do. Hurricane Lili's estimated 70 to 80 mph gusts tested Youngsville roofs in 2002, before many of today's subdivisions existed. The August 2016 rain flooded 660 homes in the city, Highland Ridge among them, and led to two regional projects with seven detention ponds on about 50 acres.

Wind and long rains work on the same weak points: shingle edges at the eaves and rakes, ridge caps, pipe collars and wall flashing. On a free inspection we check each of those, take photos of what we find, and give you a detailed written estimate. If there is storm damage, we document the damage with photos and a written assessment you can give your insurer.

Youngsville FAQ

Questions from Youngsville homeowners.

Does my HOA have to approve a new roof?
It depends on your subdivision. Planned neighborhoods like Sugar Mill Pond have a homeowners association, so read your covenants for color or material rules and any approval step before you pick a shingle. Tell us what your HOA requires and we will build the estimate around it.
My roof went on when the house was built in the early 2000s. Is it time?
Not automatically. Age is the first clue, since most asphalt shingle roofs last 20 to 25 years, and homes from Youngsville's early 2000s growth are now in that range. Look for curled or missing shingles, granules in the gutters and stains on ceilings, then let us inspect it before you decide.
How far is Youngsville from your base?
Youngsville is a little over 30 miles south of Opelousas by I-49 and Lafayette. Lafayette Parish is part of our regular service area, and we are available 7 days a week to set up a free roof inspection and a written estimate.
