Roofing in Broussard, LA
Roof repair, replacement and storm work for Broussard homes, from the historic Main Street blocks to the newer neighborhoods off Highway 90.
A roofer who knows Broussard.
Broussard started out as Côte Gelée, named for its hilly ridge and the hard winter of 1784. The town was founded in 1884 and named for Valsin Broussard, a local merchant, and it was designated a city in November 2002. It sits about 7 miles southeast of Lafayette, with U.S. 90, LA 182 and LA 96 running through it.
It has grown quickly. The census counted 8,197 people in 2010 and 13,417 in 2020. That puts early 1900s homes on Main Street a few minutes from much newer ones, and each needs a different inspection. Delta Roofing & Repair comes down from Opelousas to do that inspection for free.
What wears out roofs in Broussard.
Gulf storms come straight up
Hurricane Lili came ashore near Intracoastal City on October 3, 2002. The National Weather Service report on the storm lists the gymnasium roof at Broussard Elementary School as peeled back. Wind damage on a house usually starts the same way, at a lifted edge, a loose ridge cap or torn flashing, so those are the first things we check after a storm.
Limbs and debris on the roof
In that same storm, the weather service recorded numerous trees and power lines blown down across Lafayette Parish, with some of the debris landing on homes and damaging roofs and windows. A punctured deck needs tarping and sealing before the next rain, then a proper repair once the weather clears.
Two very different housing stocks
Broussard's Main Street Historic District and National Register homes like the Billeaud House, built around 1907, sit close to the subdivisions that came with the city's recent growth. Older roofs can hide tired decking and layered patches. Newer roofs are reaching the age where the original shingles, pipe collars and sealants start to show wear.
Permits in Broussard
Inside Broussard city limits, building permits come from the City of Broussard's Permitting/Licensing Department at City Hall, 406 E. Madison St., and the city lists roofing among the projects that need one. In unincorporated Lafayette Parish, the Lafayette Consolidated Government Permitting Division issues permits. For an address in unincorporated St. Martin Parish, it is the parish Building Permits Department in St. Martinville. Louisiana's Act 239 has required roofing and reroofing work to be permitted and inspected since August 1, 2025. Requirements vary, so confirm what your address needs with the right office.

Historic Main Street and newer neighborhoods
Broussard keeps more history than its growth suggests. The Broussard Multiple Resource Area on the National Register of Historic Places includes the Billeaud House at 303 West Main Street, the Valsin Broussard House, the Comeaux House, the Ducrest Building, the Janin Store, St. Cecilia School and the Main Street Historic District. The city's own history describes the early community as horse-and-buggy country with large sugarcane plantation homes.
Roofs on homes that old often carry several generations of repairs. On those we look closely at the decking, the flashing at chimneys and walls, and any spot where a patch was laid over the original. On the newer homes, the questions are simpler: how the shingles are aging, whether the attic vents properly, and whether the pipe collars are still sealed.
What storms have done to Broussard roofs
Hurricane Lili is the clearest local record. After the October 2002 storm, the National Weather Service listed the peeled-back gym roof at Broussard Elementary School and fallen trees damaging roofs across Lafayette Parish. Next door in Youngsville, its survey estimated wind gusts of 70 to 80 mph. Lili made landfall near Intracoastal City in Vermilion Parish, south of here.
Most storm damage starts small: a lifted shingle edge, bent flashing, or a cracked pipe collar that lets wind-driven rain in. We document the damage with photos and a written assessment you can give your insurer. Then we lay out the repair or the replacement in a detailed written estimate.
